After hearing a departmental lunchtime seminar by Paul Brehm that described light production in jelly fish, acqurin and then about a fluorence protein that produced green light instead pf blue, Chalfie became excited about using this protein as a biological marker. The lecture details the events in his laboratory that resulted with with using GFP in C. elegans.
